A Blog Plan for the New Year
I'm going to do things a bit differently this year. It occurred to me recently that I've written about the weekly Torah portion for just under 20 years. Two years as a student rabbi with a congregation in Lake Norman, North Carolina. 13 1/2 years as Senior Rabbi in Wallingford, PA. And now three years in Edison, NJ. And maybe a D'var Torah or two sprinkled around my earlier years in rabbinical school and before that in college. If you want to hear what I have to say about the weekly Torah portion, you're welcome to come to services at Congregation Beth El in Edison every other weekend and on Jewish holidays. Or you can peruse my catalogue of blog posts from Ohev Shalom in Wallingford here:
Let's try something new. I would like to share five themes for this year; one for each Book of the Torah. I'm not going to write about the weekly parashah, but something on the theme connected to that book. My themes (I think) are:
B'reisheet/Genesis - Origin Stories and Myths
Shemot/Exodus - The Resilience of People
Va-Yikra/Leviticus - Being Jewish and Doing Jewish
B'Midbar/Numbers - Chaos and Forming
D'varim/Deuteronomy - Pursuing Wisdom
It's a fledgling idea. Let's see how it goes. Wishing everyone a Shanah Tovah u'Metukah - a Happy, Healthy, and Sweet New Year!!
Jeremy
