Your B'nai Mitzvah Journey
Becoming a B’nai Mitzvah is more than learning to lead a service or chant from the Torah — it is a meaningful step into Jewish life, responsibility, and identity. Over the past three decades, I’ve had the privilege of guiding more than 200 students through this journey. Each one brings their own personality, interests, and learning style, and the process of preparation is always shaped around the individual.
Preparation typically unfolds over many months of study and practice. Students learn Hebrew and prayer skills, explore their Torah portion, and deepen their understanding of Jewish tradition and values. Along the way, we also work together to craft a ceremony that reflects the student and their family in authentic and meaningful ways.
B’nai Mitzvah preparation is available for both young people and adults. Some families seek guidance for a child approaching this milestone, while others come to the process later in life as adults who wish to mark the moment they take on the responsibilities of Jewish adulthood.
Every learner deserves to feel supported and capable in this process. I have worked with students with a wide range of learning styles and needs, including those with learning differences, dyslexia, physical disabilities, or anxiety around public speaking. Together we shape a path that honors each person’s strengths and ensures that the experience is accessible, affirming, and meaningful.
For many families, the experience extends beyond tutoring alone. I can also help guide the broader journey — supporting families in shaping the ceremony, facilitating family learning, coordinating meaningful social action projects, and helping ensure that the entire experience reflects the values and spirit of the student and their community. My goal is not simply to prepare someone for a ceremony, but to help create a moment that feels deeply personal, memorable, and genuinely Jewish rather than formulaic.
If you’re considering B’nai Mitzvah preparation for yourself or for someone in your family, I would be glad to talk together and explore what that journey might look like.
