Counseling and Pastoral Support
An Approach Rooted in Listening and Meaning

What Guides My Work - Holding Complexity with Care

I have always loved the idea that a rabbi should be

a "guide on the side," rather than a "sage on the stage."

Spiritual care, at its best, is not about providing answers or fixing what hurts. It is about presence, listening, and helping people make meaning in moments that are complex, uncertain, or emotionally charged. I don't know your story... yet.

My approach is grounded in close attention—to language, to tradition, and to the lived experience of the people I work with. I take seriously both the depth of Jewish sources and the reality of contemporary life, including grief, transition, doubt, and change. Yet hopefully also joy, celebration, and gratitude. Spiritual care must be honest enough to hold what is difficult, and flexible enough to meet people where they are.

Whether through teaching, ritual, or conversation, I aim to create spaces that are intellectually sincere, emotionally attuned, and full of compassion and care. This work resists slogans and shortcuts. Instead, it honors curiosity, reflection, and the slow work of understanding what matters most.

Care is never one-size-fits-all. Each person, family, or community brings their own history, questions, and needs. My role is to listen carefully, offer structure and language where helpful, and walk alongside others as they navigate meaningful moments in their lives. Walking *with* all the people who choose to work with me.
